Weekly Update

Hey, everyone!

This week we'll be memorizing Romans 8:6-10:

6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,

8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

I hope that you all have a great week! :)    ~Emily

A Confederate Soldier's Prayer

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy.
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for but got everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am, among all people, most richly blessed.

Good Morning

Hey, ya'll!  Sorry we've been so tardy about starting up the weekly memorization again...  this week we're going to start Romans 8.

1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Song in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

Romans 8:1-5

My Life Right Now

I was planning on Saturday to post on Monday... but it didn't happen. And the next day was Sunday and I decided not to schedule the post, because first I would need to write it. And on Monday I didn't plan anything, because I forgot that I needed to, and we tried to start our school-year. I say 'tried' because we realized that we needed another week to get ready. And then on Tuesday night I remembered that I needed to plan to post, only it was too late and I needed to go to bed so that I could get up early to try to do some prep work for school next week. All day Wednesday I told myself that I would blog later, because we had kids over all day and I skipped all preparation for school next week so that I could can from the garden before the tomatoes rotted. On Thursday I continued to prepare for the next school week, and went to music lessons and read some books and went to pick up more beans so that I could can more, and then watched some of the movie that matched my book. And today I did a full day of school just to make sure that it worked and I could do it, and later we're having a friend over to spend the night because we never get to see her, and Mom wants me to do the laundry if I get a minute because she's still trying to finish up the little-kid's school.

This is my life right now. :)

I'm trying to enjoy every second of it, and not miss a moment, because very soon it's going to change. And then it won't ever be the same again, and I'll miss what I once thought was unorganized chaos and running wildly all day long, trying to be in control of our lives.

In fact, I think that most people lose a lot of time trying to stay on top of things. And I don't think that you can! The only One who can possibly control our lives is God, so I've been trying to give Him my days.

When the schedule messes up, and nothing happens the way I want it to, and I feel like I had a useless day- I need to remember that every day is a gift from God. He delights in giving us good things, and the only useless day is the one that I spent without rejoicing in Him and praising Him for the good He gives.

So I apologize for not posting on time... but life took over! Maybe we could start our verses next week?

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." ~Eph. 3:20-21

We're Back!

Hey, everyone!  Kelsie here to let ya’ll know that Emily and I are returning to our little corner of the web after our extended break!  We will be continuing our Monday posts for Bible memorization and other thoughts during the week, but have decided not to continue the Bible reading together.  We aren’t reading at the same pace, though we both hope to have read through the Bible by the end of the year.

It’s good to be back, and we’ll see ya’ll again on Monday with the beginning verses of Titus 1!  :o)

~Joshua 10~

"So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him and all the valiant warriors. The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands ; not one of them shall stand before you." So Joshua came upon them suddenly by marching all night from Gilgal. And the LORD confounded them before Israel, and He slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and pursued them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon and struck them as far as Azekah and Makkedah. As they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, the LORD threw large stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died ; there were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword. Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, "O sun, stand still at Gibeon, And O moon in the valley of Aijalon." So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar ? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man ; for the LORD fought for Israel. Then Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp to Gilgal."

Happy Day!

Hello! I'm very much beginning to feel that Spring has finally arrived! The sun is shining and I can't help but see God's beautiful creation everywhere I look today!

This week we're going to finish up Deuteronomy with chapter 16-34, and memorize the next 5 verses of Titus.

5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you,

6 namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion.

7 For the overseer must be above reproach as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain,

8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled,

9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

Have a lovely week!
